Learner Autonomy ---Simple English Videos

🙋As English language users, it is very important for us to become independent learners outside the classroom. As the saying goes in China, it is never too old to learn. So, as teachers, we are responsible for developing students' autonomy to learn English outside the classroom, which would accompany them for a lifetime.

So, today I would introduce a website, Simple English Video, which would be useful for self-reliant English learners to study outside the classroom.

📹Same as previous, a video is attached below which may be helpful for you to get familiar with this platform.

Next, I would illustrate the advantages and disadvantages based on my experience with this platform.

😍Advantages:

1. The layout and the navigation of the website are clear.
It divides the videos according to different standards, such as learners' levels and varieties of English.

2. Each cover of the video is attractive. It would show the topics of the video by titles or related items which could attract learners to click it.

3. Each video is educational and well organized for learners to study.

-Before the video, there would be some warming-up questions or some related

background introduction for learners to read.

-The video would show the related vocabulary, sentences ,or some relevant skills through some authentic dialogues.

-And the speed of their speech varied according to the learners' level.

-After the video, there will be some tasks for learners to accomplish.

-The tones of writers are very friendly and motivated which would be great for learners who study independently.

4. Totally free! Learners do not need to sign up. And all the materials are free on this website.

😥Disadvantages:

1. Although the website classifies the videos according to different standards. I found that the classification is not so comprehensive.

Firstly, it would be better if the videos could be classified according to topics, which would be useful for learners to study relevant vocabulary or collocations and form a body of knowledge.

Secondly, I found that there are only two varieties of English presented in the catalog, which may mislead learners to regard American and British English as standard English.

2.  The text after the video is always very long and without any pictures which may distract learners.

In conclusion, I would recommend learners to try this website.

And if you are a teacher, then I would advise you to watch and select some videos from it instead of just sending the link to students.

💗Hope you would enjoy exploring this tool to promote your students autonomy in learning English.
